The Artist
My Artistic Journey
I am a self-taught artist and, all my life, I applied my skills in different areas. I started by working with wood, making and restoring furniture, until the day I was presented with a research project about patinas on metals. I developed an industrial method for the company
Pomerleau, which consisted of patinated copper panels. The panels created through my method now cover the columns at
La Rotonde,
Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal. Thereafter, a research contract for the company
Hussey Copper in Texas allowed me to further develop my process and apply it to bronze, aluminum, steel, zinc and tin.
A few years ago, I undertook a technical course in violin-making, however, I preferred to redirect myself towards knife-making. My current art form is best aligned with my aspirations and provides greater latitude in terms of techniques and materials.
I continually strive to develop my art and the rendering of my knives, by pursuing trainings in very specific areas. For instance, in lapidary arts, I aim to produce knife handles either entirely made of stone or with embedded stones, using different varieties.
